Welcome! You probably already know that Hashteckel specializes in harnesses and coats for Dachshunds. Each product is handmade, specifically tailored to the unique build of Dachshunds. After years of study and testing, we've developed the perfect coat and the ideal, well-fitting harness.
To find the right size, we ask that you carefully measure your Dachshund according to the measurement guide included with each product. We don't work with standard sizes like XS for rabbit Dachshunds and S for toy Dachshunds, because Dachshunds, like people, come in different shapes and sizes. So always measure your Dachshund before ordering.
On this page, you'll find a detailed explanation of how to measure your Dachshund for the correct size harness, coat, or collar. Instructional videos for measuring harnesses and coats will be available soon.
PREPARATION
What you need before you start:
A flexible measuring tape
Pen and paper
A Dachshund
Use a flexible measuring tape and make sure you measure your Dachshund in a standing position , not sitting.
DETERMINING THE CORRECT SIZE OF A DACHSHUND HARNESS
To choose the right size harness for your Dachshund, follow the measurement instructions that came with the harness you've chosen. You'll measure two areas: the neck and shoulders and the chest.
Neck and shoulder area
Our harnesses sit lower on the neck and shoulders than regular dog harnesses. They rest on the Dachshund's sternum, the point at the front of the chest. So, measure slightly below the collar position, with the tape measure running over the protruding sternum. Measure the entire neck and shoulders all around, including the sternum, and record the measured measurements in centimeters.
Bust size
Our Dachshund harnesses fit further down the back than regular dog harnesses. Place two fingers vertically behind your Dachshund's armpits and measure the chest circumference directly behind your fingers. Don't measure directly behind the front legs, but a little further back. Write down these measurements as well.

Reading size chart
Compare your measurements with the size chart for the harness you selected. The size chart shows the harness's dimensions, not your Dachshund's. What are the centimeters within which your Dachshund's measurements fall?
Example
You have taken the following measurements:
Neck and shoulder area: 36 cm
Chest : 55 cm
| Dachshund | Weight | Neck shoulder | Chest | Guideline size | |
| Kaninchen / small dwarf | 3-6 kg | 28-38 cm | 33-52 cm | XXS | |
| Big dwarf | 6-10 kg | 33-40 cm | 48-60 cm | XXS - XS | |
| Standard | 10-12 kg | 38-43 cm | 39-65 cm | XS | |
| Standard | 12+ kg | 44-53 cm | 39-65 cm | S | |
In the table you can see that:
Neck and shoulder area: falls between 33 and 40 centimeters = size XXS-XS
Chest: between 48 and 60 cm = size XXS-XS
Does your Dachshund also weigh between 6 and 10 kg? Then choose size XXS-XS.

DETERMINING THE CORRECT SIZE OF YOUR DACHSHUND COAT
To find the right size coat for your Dachshund, follow the measurement instructions for the coat you've chosen. All our coats have the same sizing, so if your Dachshund already has a size S in one of our coats and hasn't grown, you can reorder that size in our webshop.
Please note: the bathrobes have different sizing than our own Dachshund coats. To ensure this is the case, simply measure the back length using the measurement guide and choose the correct size based on that.
The centimeters you see in the size chart indicate the size the jacket is adjustable from. A neck circumference of 35-40 centimeters means this jacket can be adjusted around the neck from 35-40 centimeters using Velcro. The back length also has "up to centimeters"—the back length is also adjustable. "Huh?" we hear you thinking. It works like this: the more you give our jackets under the chin, the further down the back they will sit. This allows you to play around with all our jackets and find the perfect fit for your Dachshund.
To ensure the correct size fit, measure three things: neck circumference, chest circumference and back length.
Neck circumference
Measure around the neck where a collar normally sits. Note the measurement in centimeters.
Bust size
Place two fingers vertically behind your Dachshund's armpits and measure its chest circumference directly behind your fingers. Don't measure directly behind the front legs, but a little further away. Write down these measurements as well.
Back length
Measure from the tips of the shoulder blades to the base of the tail . Not from neck to tail or beyond. Start at the shoulders and measure along the back, ending where the tail begins. Write down these centimeters as well.

Consult size chart
Compare your measurements with the coat's size chart. The size chart shows the coat's dimensions, not your Dachshund's.
Different outcomes
Check the neck, chest, and back measurements. For example, if the measurements are size S, choose size S. If only the neck measurement is size XS and the rest is size S, choose size S, as the back length is the determining factor and the jacket is further adjustable with Velcro.

Determining the correct size Dachshund collar
To find the right size collar for your Dachshund, measure the neck circumference where the collar normally sits. Place two fingers under the measuring tape to prevent the collar from being too tight.
Compare your measurements to the collar's size chart. Make sure your measurements fall within the size indication on the collar. The size chart shows the dimensions of the collar itself, not your Dachshund's.
Different outcomes
If you measured your Dachshund's neck circumference to be 38 cm, choose a collar size within 30-40 cm. Your Dachshund will fit well within this size range.
