1. REVIEW

A few years ago, when our webshop was about two years old, we were regularly asked if we sold well-fitting harnesses for Dachshunds. The transition from collar to harness was becoming increasingly popular, especially because Dachshunds were known to be prone to hernias. A well-fitting Dachshund harness proved essential. We also encountered this problem with our own Dachshund. Standard dog harnesses often didn't fit properly: they slipped, got caught in the armpits, or he could escape. We found this unacceptable.

After thorough research, we discovered the German brand Niggeloh, known worldwide in the hunting industry for its high-quality hunting accessories such as gun slings and carrying solutions. They also make dog harnesses that excel in comfort and quality, specifically for working dogs used in hunting.

We quickly realized that Niggeloh harnesses were a perfect fit for Dachshunds and decided to add them to our product range. Both we and our customers were thrilled: the quality and comfort are exactly what you want from a Dachshund harness. The harnesses are long enough on the back to prevent chafing in the armpits, offer plenty of freedom of shoulder movement, and are made of a breathable, lightweight material that can withstand all weather conditions. In the years that followed, we've made many Dachshunds happy with these fantastic harnesses!

2. COOPERATION

In early 2024, Niggeloh invited us to visit their office and workshop. During the visit, we discussed the existing Dachshund harness models and whether, based on our years of experience with Dachshund harnesses, any improvements could be made. We were then given a tour of the production workshop. We were impressed by the craftsmanship: every product is made in Germany and finished by hand. Everything, from the design and production mold to the packaging and labels, is crafted with care and skill, using the highest quality materials. See below for a summary of the day.

We noticed that some Dachshunds didn't quite fit all sizes and models. That's why we decided to join forces. With our years of experience and expertise in designing custom fits for Dachshunds, combined with Niggeloh's high-quality products, we've developed the perfect Dachshund harness.

Together with the Niggeloh team, we designed prototypes that traveled several times between Radevormwald and Deventer. After thorough testing, fitting, and improvements, we are now proud to present our latest collection of Dachshund harnesses, in collaboration with Niggeloh.

3. WHAT MAKES THIS HARNESS SPECIAL?

Why are these harnesses specifically designed for Dachshunds, and why are they so popular? Here are the main reasons:

1. Perfect fit
The unique body shape of Dachshunds requires a specially designed harness. These harnesses are designed to fit their broad shoulders and deep chest, combined with their long, narrow body. They extend further down the back and stay out of the armpits, leaving your Dachshund's shoulder blades completely exposed. Thanks to a longer back panel and an adjustable belly strap, every owner can customize the fit.

2. Ultimate wearing comfort
These Dachshund harnesses offer exceptional comfort. The fit conforms perfectly to the Dachshund's body and moves with it without slipping, provided it's properly adjusted, of course. The sternum is also always softly padded with neoprene. Another very pleasant advantage: the Follow Light harness has an extra clip on the neck, so the harness doesn't have to be worn over the head, ideal for Dachshunds who don't like that.

3. Lightweight
The majority of this Dachshund harness is made of neoprene, an ultralight material. This makes the Follow Light and Follow Start the lightest harnesses of their kind, further increasing comfort for the Dachshund.

4. Outdoor-proof and maintenance-free
Because Dachshunds are low to the ground, their harnesses are exposed to dirt and moisture on a daily basis. Originally designed for hunting, these harnesses are made of high-quality neoprene that doesn't absorb moisture or dirt. The durable, soft nylon prevents chafing, and the full-grain leather appliqués stay beautiful, even after a dip in the water. These features make this Dachshund harness virtually maintenance-free.

4. WHAT HAS CHANGED AND WHAT HAS NOT?

Since many of you already own a Niggeloh Dachshund harness, we will explain here what has and has not changed.

What hasn't changed?

The model
There are two types of Dachshund harnesses for Hashteckels: the Y-harness and the H-harness. This blog post explains the difference between these two types .

All Y-harnesses are from the Niggeloh x Hashteckel collection. The two Y-harness models, the Follow Light and the Follow Start, remain available. These models have been improved, and you can read more about these improvements in the "What's changed?" section.

Compatible with our jackets
The Dachshund harnesses are fully compatible with our Dachshund coats . All our harnesses can be worn over or under the coat (under the coat only applies to the neoprene models). What has changed?

Follow Light Sizes
The Follow Light Dachshund harness previously had three sizes: XXS, XS and S. There was a significant difference between sizes XXS and XS. To optimize this model, we designed an intermediate size: XXS-XS . Now no Dachshund falls between the sizes.

The existing sizes XXS, XS, and S remain unchanged. The sizing of the Follow Light Dachshund harness is as follows:

> Size XXS: suitable for rabbit and small dwarf Dachshunds;
> Size XXS-XS: suitable for large dwarf Dachshunds;
> Size XS: suitable for standard Dachshunds;
> Size S: suitable for large standard Dachshunds.

Size XXS is adjustable from small rabbit Dachshunds to small toy Dachshunds. The next new size, XXS-XS, is ideal for large toy Dachshunds. Size XS is designed for standard Dachshunds. Size S is intended for even larger standard Dachshunds. This is rare.

Sizes Follow Start
The Follow Start Dachshund harness previously came in two sizes: XXS-XS and SM. Here too, there was a significant difference between the two sizes. We've optimized this model by adding two new sizes : XXS and XS.

The dimensions of the Follow Start Dachshund harness are as follows:

> Size XXS: suitable for rabbit and small dwarf Dachshunds;
> Size XXS-XS: suitable for large dwarf Dachshunds;
> Size XS: suitable for small standard Dachshunds;
> Size SM: suitable for normal standard Dachshunds.

Size XXS is adjustable from small rabbit Dachshunds to small toy Dachshunds. The next new size, XXS-XS, is ideal for large toy Dachshunds. Size XS is designed for small standard Dachshunds. Size SM is intended for even larger standard Dachshunds. This is rare.

All sizes of the Follow Start, including the existing sizes XXS-XS and SM, have had some changes . All Follow Start harnesses now feature an adjustable strap under the belly , allowing you to create more length on your Dachshund's back. This provides extra freedom for the shoulders.

This way, we've ensured there's a suitable size for every Dachshund, both for the Follow Light and the Follow Start. Now, no Dachshund will be unable to fit in our harnesses.

To colour
Both the Follow Light and the Follow Start are now available in two new colors. The Follow Light is now also available in black, and the Follow Start in brown.

What does this change mean for my current harness?
If you already own a Niggeloh Dachshund harness, the new collection could mean two things:

Follow Light
> If your current Follow Light harness fits well, you don't need to change anything.
If the current Follow Light harness is too loose or too small, the new intermediate size XXS-XS may fit better. Please contact us to check this.

Follow Start
> If your current Follow Start harness fits well, you don't need to change anything.
If your current Follow Start harness is too loose or too small, the new intermediate size XXS-XS may fit better. Please contact us to check this.
If your current Follow Start harness fits well, but you'd like more room behind your Dachshund's front legs, you can reorder the same harness in the same size. You'll then receive the harness with an adjustable belly strap to create extra length.

5. WHAT SIZE DO I NEED FOR MY DACHSHUND?

The harnesses in our webshop now include sizing recommendations based on your Dachshund's size and weight. However, measuring your Dachshund before ordering remains the best approach, just as we've done in the past.

Every Dachshund is unique—think large and small dwarf Dachshunds, and variations in width and length. With the introduction of new intermediate sizes, the difference between the right size for your Dachshund is now smaller than ever. There is now no Dachshund that won't fit a Niggeloh Dachshund harness.
