Why choose the BuddyRider® as a Dachshund bicycle basket?
The BuddyRider® was developed in Canada for dogs up to 12 kg (26 lbs). We've been selling the BuddyRider as a Dachshund bike basket for four years now and can confidently say that all purebred Dachshunds up to 12 kg (26 lbs) will fit. Actually, that's all Dachshunds, as they usually don't weigh more than 12 kg (26 lbs). For comparison: Beer, the brown wire-haired Dachshund in the product photos, weighs 12 kg (26 lbs), and Frits, the blond long-haired Dachshund, weighs 5 kg (11 lbs).

This Dachshund bike basket attaches to the seatpost, so there's no weight on your handlebars. This makes cycling more stable and safer. Plus, your Dachshund sits in front of you, so you're always in contact. Dogs stay calmer because you can reassure them, whine less, and are more sociable. Because your Dachshund sits close, it can perfectly watch everything you encounter.

While cycling, your Dachshund can choose to stand or lie down with its front legs on the platform. In both positions, it maintains a straight back, something we consider very important for a Dachshund's delicate back! Thanks to the adjustable back support and safety belt, your Dachshund is always safe.



How does the BuddyRider® work?
You'll receive the BuddyRider® for your Dachshund as a complete package. This includes the seat, mounting bracket, soft foam padding for the seat, seatpost holder, locking pin, and safety harness. The seat weighs approximately 2 kg, but thanks to its clever seatpost attachment, you won't even notice it while riding. The BuddyRider® ensures excellent weight distribution and a stable ride.

Note: Since November 2025, you've been selecting the correct mounting arm for your bike during checkout. This is the arm that connects the seat to your bike stem. Installing the BuddyRider® is easy and is explained in the included manual. Once installed, simply slide the Teckel bike basket into the seatpost holder and secure it with the locking pin. When you're not using the BuddyRider®, simply leave the holder on your bike – it won't bother you. This way, you don't have to constantly install and remove the seat.

The mount is also available separately : ideal for use on multiple bikes. This way, you don't have to constantly disassemble the BuddyRider®. Super convenient if you ride together and want to take turns, or if the BuddyRider® needs to be carried on two bikes.

Does the BuddyRider® fit my bike?
Usually, yes, but we always recommend measuring your bike using the information below. This way, you can be sure this Dachshund bike basket fits your bike! Also, take a look at the image to see what measurements you need for your bike. Your bike needs:

• Minimum 48.5 cm between seat post and handlebars;
• Minimum 4.5 cm straight section of seat post.

Please note! This Dachshund bicycle basket can not confirmed are attached to a carbon seatpost , full suspension seatpost or seatpost that is straight up .

You need at least 48.5 cm of space between the seatpost and the handlebars so the seat fits between your saddle and handlebars. The straight part of your bike's seatpost must be at least 4.5 centimeters: this is the only way the mount will fit on your seatpost. Does your bike have a fully suspended seatpost? Then you'll need to replace it with a fixed seatpost; the Buddyrider cannot be attached to a suspension seatpost . A suspension seatpost can often be found at any bike shop or online. Does your bike have a partially suspended seatpost? Then it's possible to attach the mount to the non-suspension part, provided that part is also at least 4.5 cm .

Also important to know: make sure your saddle is adjusted so you can reach the ground with both feet when mounting and standing still. Since you'll be mounting as a man, this is especially important for women. Ideally, your saddle should always be at hip height, but double-check to be sure. This is the only way you can both safely use this Dachshund bike basket.

This latest version of the BuddyRider®, version 2, has a rotating component under the platform. This allows you to adjust the platform to the desired height. This can be useful if you have an electric bike with a display, for example, or if you have high handlebars. It's also worth experimenting to find the height that's most comfortable for your Dachshund. Besides the rotating knob that adjusts the platform height, you can also move the BuddyRider forward or backward using the screws under the seat.

In addition, there is now the Flex Arm® . The Flex-Arm® significantly improves the position of the BuddyRider®, with more possibilities to adjust the riding position fore and aft, and up and down on the bike. Thanks to the Flex-Arm®, the Dachshund bicycle seat fits better on bicycles with a smaller frame or higher handlebars. All cyclists can fine-tune and optimize their installation for a more comfortable riding experience with the Flex-Arm®!

Is the BuddyRider® suitable for my Dachshund puppy?
Absolutely! You can't start too early. We recommend starting around 3-4 months of age. It's important that your Dachshund puppy can already balance on their own. Start slowly with the Dachshund bike basket: a short walk around the block, getting used to the seat together, reassuring them, and rewarding them with a treat along the way or afterward. Build it up gradually and don't force anything. This way, you keep the experience positive! Especially at a young age, they quickly adapt to new things, and it will feel like the most natural thing in the world: cycling together!
